The difference is that you have to work through the same thing and there's the possibility that you'll look back and see that it's been different. As you obviously did. Generates the energy they need.
But don't worry. We won't be here forever.

[Omg no, do not tease her she will smack you so hard her mother would be proud.
...]
So I guess you're stuck at that height, then?
[Why yes, that is definitely the wittiest thing she can think to say. First time she's seen him in person, alright. And already craning her neck omg rude.]
[Along with the noise of agreement, he gets himself a cheeky, 'you think you're so impressive' sort of look. One so common on her face she sometimes wonders why she hasn't patented it.
But he's letting her in and she's trying only half subtly to take him all in. See what he looks like; still fairly thin, if only slightly broader than his last self. Lots of hair- still pretty great. His eyes are a lot lighter. It's weird.]
[ Oh, it tends to be fairly common on a lot of companions' faces. The Doctor pouts at it, because of course he is, he's brilliant. But it's nothing unusual, it's very Rose, and it makes him happy and sad at the same time.
Just as it should be, then. ]
Tea and jammy dodgers!
[ He swings the door closed and turns to lead Rose into the kitchen. ]
[Definitely a common theme, at the very least. And it's a good sign, that she has it slapped on already. She's warming up. Fast. That look is only ever reserved for him, after all.]
Y'didn't burn anything gettin' hot water? [Because kettles are not automated TARDIS-dispensers.]
[But hey, she'll follow him in, eyes all around in a very un-subtle manner. She'll see if he brings up the reason she's here. Even if she can sort of guess.]
[ The distance to the kitchen here is far less than that of the distance to the TARDIS kitchen, at least, so they're soon there, and the Doctor sets about pulling out different kinds of teas and placing them down next to the cups on the counter.
And on the kitchen table is, indeed, a plate of jammy dodgers, left over from Gau's gift still. ]
[ Indeed. The Doctor goes for something fruity this time, grabs a bag of each of the kinds and places them into two cups. He still remembers, of course, how Rose likes her tea, so he fixes that too, and then places the cups on two sides of the table so they'll sit face to face.
Then he takes a biscuit of his own and flops down on the chair. ]
[That's weird to see- something fruity. He always liked his tea black- with sugar, but fruity? How strange. Still, he remembers how she likes hers, and that's earning quite a few brownie points.
And with that flop, she's digging into a second cookie, even going so far as to brazen dipping it into her cup.]
[ She timed that in well because he was just about to drink his own. Now he just sort of chokes instead - without the coughing, at least - because wow, woman.
[ He hates thinking of telling her that. It makes him feel so incredibly guilty, that he's lived so long and yet his previous self barely got a chance, even if he was so tired when it happened, it... He thinks about it sometimes, and it hurts somehow.
He's not fully sure why.
The answer is cautious, careful, as if he really shouldn't give it. ]
[She has no small imagination or inkling that it would hurt. He'd paled over even thinking about his days gone with Sarah Jane, and she most certainly had enough of an ego to think missing her would be even a little bit painful.
But still, she nods, lips pressed in to be chewed in thought. So it's ... been a long time. Well, maybe two hundred years isn't that long for him, in the scheme of things. But it's still a long time.]
So I guess-- [No. She doesn't even want to say it. She didn't stay with him much longer. If at all. And whether saying it will just confirm it or not, it still stings. There's no changing that.]
[ The furrow to his forehead is so clearly regretful and so very sorry, but even if she had stayed with him, he would have watched her age and die and. That thought is even more painful than what actually happened. It's not strange to him that it is, either.
Everything considering, he likes to think her fate was lucky. At least compared to plenty others. Donna. Adric.

Odin. 101 ... Right.
How about a knock knock?]
You still in?
[Video -> Action] /pats
[ And he's hanging up now, because he's just swinging towards the front door and. There it opens. ]
Hello!

Tea and jammy dodgers!

I am, in fact, very capable of boiling water without mishaps.

Right... Well, then. Shall we? [Lead the way, Doctor.]

So. [Eyeing you, Doctor.] What you been up to?
no subject
Went home for a while. That's why I took so long getting to you, sorry about that.
[ A day is totally a very long time. He has issues with making people wait, okay. ]
no subject
Is that where you went?
[Because hey, that's not okay. Especially without telling anyone. Stop making us worry, brat.]
You just sort've vanished for a day. Think it was a day.
no subject
And it wasn't his fault, gosh! ]
Yeah, a day. Here, that is. I'm eleven hundred now.
[ Or 1150... Or 1200... Possibly. ]
no subject
Eleven hundred? [Excuse her, she's just putting her tea down very neat and proper. Like a lady. Because really?]
That's. [Hm.] I think... this age gap's gettin' a bit out of hand.
no subject
Meaningfully, with fake sternness: ]
It was already out of hand, Rose.
no subject
And I s'pose that's why you kept me around. [Fake sternness right back at you, buddy.]
no subject
[ He reaches across the table to lightly shove her shoulder because really. What are you implying. ]
no subject
Really though. Eleven hundred? You've been busy. [Aaaannnd pause.] How long's it been since y'last saw me? Back home- I mean.
[Nope. Suddenly her cuppa is very, very fascinating.]
no subject
He's not fully sure why.
The answer is cautious, careful, as if he really shouldn't give it. ]
I saw you last when I was still nine hundred.
no subject
