[It's a relief to finally receive her answer; despite the fact that he trusted Rose to take care of herself, there'd still been a gnawing worry within him. He's almost able to keep the relief out of his face when he responds, although she might be able to catch it if she looks closely.]

An old- [He misses a beat here, because- the Doctor didn't quite consider the Master an enemy, he knows, but to Jack, that's all the other Time Lord is. An enemy. So he sticks with that, nevermind the Doctor's emotional attachment.] enemy of the Doctor's. Another Time Lord, one who survived the war. He goes by 'the Master.'
[ She sees a glimpse of it, had seen it before, heard it in his voice. Whatever this was, it had him out of sorts. Urgent, worried. It was both comforting and distressing; it'd been a long time since she'd heard either in her friend's voice, let alone at all. ]
The Master? Sounds the type. I haven't met anyone by that name- would've asked him about it if he'd given me a name like that. What's he look like?
[Just human. The corners of his lips twitch as he shoves down the thought. She doesn't know, can't know. Didn't live through the year of hell. And for that, Jack will always be thankful. Rose was long out of reach by the time the Master came onto the scene.]
Being human doesn't make him any less dangerous, Rose. Not this one. He's insane, and he's going to be intent on hurting the Doctor, by hurting everything and everyone the Doctor cares for. That's going to make you a primary target.
He might introduce himself as Harold Saxon; that's the name he used on Earth, to get around without the Doctor catching wind of him.
[He shakes his head, his expression grim.] Time Lords or not, they're still people, and they come in different flavors. [And he's not missing that reaction. Have a look, Rose. But he doesn't call her on it, not yet. Instead, he presses on.] The Master is a genocidal maniac. And regardless of other targets, you're going to be a huge one, as soon as he realizes how much you mean to the Doctor. You're going to have to be extra careful.
[Because if anything happened the Rose, who knows what the Doctor would do. Or what Jack himself would do. Except that, no, Jack knows exactly what he would, what he's wanted to do to the Master for far too long. If the Master harms one hair on Rose's head, Jack will kill him in cold blood, the Doctor's reservations about the other Time Lord be damned.]
[ There's a tangible moment where Rose seems ... almost uncomfortable. Where she rolls her shoulders and finds something just off-screen to fascinate her gaze with. A bigger target. Not that she didn't know how much she meant to them, it wasn't that. But it was also kind of driving home the fact that she probably couldn't defend herself. As if the Doctor could, maybe Jack (she had a feeling he definitely could, if given the chance), and yet somehow, she was more vulnerable.
Maybe when I was still with him. Before Canary Wharf, before the Dalek Emperor. She'd have been a much bigger, easier target, then. ]
If he's a genocidal maniac, then the god's will be keeping an eye on him. If he turns out as batshit as Thiazi, maybe they'll do something about it. An' until then, if it happens, don't fuss over me. I can take care of myself just fine. Worry about the rest of the innocent people in the city; they'd be targets too.
[He knows full well how capable she is, but that doesn't lessen his concern, or his worry. Hell, he's just as worried about Ianto too, and he knows exactly how well the Welshman can handle himself. This isn't a matter of Rose not being able to handle herself, it's a matter of exactly how dangerous the Master is. Jack inhales deeply, shakes his head.]
I can count the number of people I trust to handle the Master on one hand, and there's only one of them here. [And between he and the eldest Doctor, the only one who will recognize the Master, he's the only one willing to use lethal force. As for the 'gods...']
All I ask Rose, is that you watch yourself. ['Because I couldn't handle seeing you in his hands.']
