[ She's glowering at him now. Seriously; Rose Tyler is not in the mood for Doctor-backtalk. ]

You lost your voices. [ AKA; start talking, Time Boy. ]

They were stolen, really. By beings called the Gentlemen.

They were perfect gentlemen up until the murders started. As it turns out, the sound of a voice is fatal, so they locked ours up in a box. Then they were free to slice hearts out of bodies all they pleased.

We were fighting them in the dark. It was unpleasant business all around.

[badwolf]

[ Well colour Rose properly horrified. Or ... at least seriously disturbed. Voice-snatching, heart stealing... And he'd been here, without her. She'd been the one out of harms way this time, damnit.

Her hand finds his chest, splayed across the spot where his heart is. She'd have both up, but ... Well. ]

But ... You're alright. Were you alright? An' don't lie t'me; were you... [ Alive. The whole time. ]

[He slowly lifts his hand to cover hers.]

They didn't get me. Or any of our group. But they killed six.

[badwolf]

[ She lets out a breath she hadn't even realized she'd taken hold of, eyes sliding shut in utter relief. She wasn't sure she could handle the death of another one so soon-- Or not him. Except Six had gotten it this time, and she isn't sure if that's any better. So she drops her forehead, steps closer so it can land upon their hands.

She wanted to punch them. Or maybe collect them all and lock them in the TARDIS, had that magical box been here in her proper shape. ]

Next time, we stick together. I can't-- take this anymore.

[fantastix]

I can agree to that.

[He slowly wraps his free arm around her, gently rubbing her back.]

First sign of trouble, we come together. We need a signal.

[badwolf]

Or a beeper.

[ She turns her head until her cheek can rest against his chest. It's still odd, and oddly comforting, being able to be so close to this version of him. He was never as touchy feely as his next self, after all. Not that she's complaining now, of course. ]

Or you could just use your bracelet an' call me up. Or... We could just spend more time t'gether.

[fantastix]

I won't complain.

[His head drops to rest atop hers. The scent's become rather familiar by now. He smiles into her hair.]

We've got some lost time to make up for, haven't we?

[badwolf]

You've no idea.

[ She doesn't sound quite as pleasant about it as he. ]

[fantastix]

About what?

[This is where he draws back a little, gently shifting the hand between them to prop her chin up.]

There was more than a dog.

[badwolf]

[ She frowns, but lets him tilt her head. ]

No. Or- Not exactly. Got in a bit of a tiff with your Eleventh self. [ Which was about the biggest understatement ever. ]

But I meant more... from back home. S'been a long time since I've seen this you, and ... A long time since I've seen you in general.

[fantastix]

Bit of a tiff? Does he need a talking-to?

[The other comments sting a little, and he longs to make it up to her now. But protecting Rose always seems to come first.]

[badwolf]

[ Now she laughs. ]

No- No he doesn't.

[ And she hates him for that. For putting her first like he does. Because she's stupidly stubborn and likes it that way. She'd take physical injury over the pain of losing him any day. ]

Will you stay with me? Tonight- I mean, tonight.

[ It's said in a rush, and quite out of the blue. ]

[Hm. He's slept over maybe once or twice in all this time. For people who know they're both in love, that's odd. But he's got a hunch that she means a little more this time. Natural progression.

The thought of it makes his nerves buzz with wonder, and after a moment he nods.]

Planning to sleep?

[badwolf]

Aren't you?

[ It's a cover. A habitual one. They've shared beds before, in the past. But only for, very strictly, sleeping. Because often times they'd end up with one optional bed; and it wasn't like he'd slept that often before, anyway.

Except now it's ... different. Isn't it? They're in love, he's told her, kissed her. There was no need for her to feel defensive or awkward about wanting him over, was there? Besides, they could just. Lay together all night, and she'd probably be happy. So she takes his hand anyway, and starts to lead him off towards the bedroom. ]

I mean... I'd take a bit of Doctor-time. Like I said; s'been a while since I last saw you.

[fantastix]

Take all the time you want tonight. I will.

[He finally smiles again as he follows her.]

You all right? Other than the scuffle with the elder Doctor.

[badwolf]

[ She'll lead him right into her room and only let go of his hand to flop onto her bed. In a sit. And then scoot back and pat the mattress for him to join her. ]

Jacket off. [ In case he tries to flop down with it still on. ]

I'm... yeah. I'm just. Tired. You know? The running is great when I've got you t'run with but... It's exhausting in a not-nice way when it's alone. Been here ages now, but I still can't shake how it felt.

[fantastix]

Your house, your rules.

[He shrugs the well-worn jacket off and gently sets his shoes aside, immediately wondering if that isn't a ploy to draw him closer to her for warmth. If it is, it worked. He sits shoulder to shoulder with her.]

All that time apart that I haven't lived through yet, you mean?

[badwolf]

[ It totally is. Subconsciously. Maybe. But she'll lean against him all the same; that had been the point. ]

... Yeah, that. I mean- there's a good year or so between when you- regenerate. But.

[fantastix]

After we were pulled apart.

[He sighs heavily.]

Before the war, the Time Lords didn't like me much. They pulled me from Jamie---I told him when we were in Vanaheim.

Now that there's no higher authority, the universe still sees fit to separate us. Can't win.

[badwolf]

[ She doesn't say anything to that. Just turns herself a little more and fits her head against his shoulder, arm sliding under and around his own. ]

Came back for a bit, though. Universe can't tell me what t'do forever.

[fantastix]

You're far too stubborn and clever.

[And I love you for it, he says without saying, curling a little closer to her.]

Every second's closer to our last. We don't know how much time we've got in this questionable sanctuary.

[He's not saying this to be a jerk. He's looking down and scrutinizing her lovely features, worry creeping into his voice. He really hates dealing with departures and uncertainty, and he doesn't want to miss another chance.]

[badwolf]

Don't say that.

[ She's pushing up now, even as he looks down at her, sitting up until their only point of contact is where their knees touch. ]

The whole point is that I don't want to think about it.

[fantastix]

So...you want to forget? Or occupy yourself with something else?

[badwolf]

I'll never forget it. Any of it.

[ Though it's said a bit quick, a bit stubbornly... There's an underlying impression that maybe she doesn't want to. Maybe it's turned into what's helped shape who she is now. ]

... Occupyin' myself might be better.
